Hook

Hook Build Guide

  • Element: Fire
  • Path: Destruction
  • Role: Fire DPS (Burn)
  • Recommended Skill Level Priority: Ultimate > Skill > Talent > Basic

Introduction

Hook is a 4* Fire Destruction character only available via gacha, she specializes in dealing ST target damage while being able to apply DoT to enemies. Hook’s skillset is rather dependent on Burn uptime as her Talent requires Burn to proc most of its effects.

Skills

Basic: Nothing much to talk about here Hook has the same normal attack as most other characters do, and ideally, in a hyper-carry team for Hook you do not want to be using her basic attack. Note that if you do end up using her Basic Attack instead of Skill, there will be a drastic drop off in damage.

Skill: Hook’s Skill deals Fire DMG to 1 enemy with a 100% base chance to apply Burn for 2 turns. When inflicted with Burn, enemies will take Fire DoT equal to a percentage of Hook’s ATK at the beginning of each turn; additionally, after using Hook’s Ultimate her Skill becomes Enhanced and deals damage to enemies adjacent to the main target. You will want to use this ability as much as possible on a carry Hook as this is her main source of damage and her only reliable way to apply Burn onto an enemy.

Ultimate: A straightforward Ultimate that deals Fire DMG to a single enemy based on Hook’s ATK. After this ultimate is used, the next Skill will be Enhanced, which deals damage to the enemies adjacent to the main target. It also has a trace that Advances Forward her action bar by 20% and generates an additional 5 energy.

Talent: When attacking a target afflicted with Burn, deals Additional Fire DMG equal to Hook’s ATK and regenerates 5 extra energy. Overall, a great talent that improves both Hook’s personal damage output and energy generation. An important thing to note about Hook’s energy generation on this talent is that hitting multiple enemies that have Burn applied to them triggers a separate instance of 5 extra energy generation.

Example: If Hook uses her Enhanced Skill and hits 3 enemies that all have burn applied to them, Hook can generate up to a total of 45 energy (Energy Generation Breakdown: 30 energy from skill cost + 5 energy for each enemy hit with Burn).

Team Comps

Similar to every other DPS Hook can be played in either a hyper carry team comp or a double carry team composition.

Hyper Carry

  • Hook = DPS
  • Bronya = Damage Buffer/Skill Point Generator
  • Pela/Tingyun = Debuffer/Damage Buffer
  • Natasha/Bailu = Healer

This team focuses on improving Hook’s personal damage output. Bronya is here to help with skill point generation and act as a damage buffer at the same time. Pela or Tingyun provide additional buffs/debuffs to help push Hook’s personal damage output. Natasha or Bailu is taken to help keep the team topped off on health.

Double Carry

  • Hook = DPS
  • Serval = AoE
  • Natasha = Healer
  • Trailblazer Fire = Tank

A more F2P-friendly team that mostly uses characters that can be obtained from the story, Serval is slotted into the team to help with AoE damage if needed, as Hook is primarily an ST damage dealer. Both Natasha and Trailblazer Fire are there to help with team survivability.

Relics and Stats

Relic Set and Stats
Relic Sets

1. Firesmith of Lava-Forging 2pc + Musketeer of Wild Wheat 2pc
2. Musketeer of Wild Wheat 4pc
3. Firesmith of Lava-Forging 4pc

Planetary Sets

1. Space Sealing Station
Main Stat
Body: Crit Rate/Crit DMG
Boots: SPD/ATK%
Planet Sphere: Fire DMG
Link Rope: ATK%

Sub Stat Priority
Crit Rate = Crit DMG > ATK% > SPD

Firesmith of Lava-Forging 2pc + Musketeer of Wild Wheat 2pc: Usually taken as both 2pc+2pc provide unconditional damage boost to the wearer.

Musketeer of Wild Wheat 4pc: 4pc Musketeer can be considered if you wish to have more SPD on Hook.

Firesmith of Lava-Forging 4pc: Unfortunately the 4pc effect of the Fire DMG set is quite underwhelming as its 4pc set effect is not always active and has a long downtime.

Eidolons

E1: A straightforward Eidolon that increases the damage of Hook’s Enhanced Skill by 20%.

E2: Extends Burn duration caused by Skill by 1 turn which helps with burn uptime.

E4: When Talent is triggered, there is a 100% base chance to Burn enemies adjacent to the target enemy, equivalent to that of Skill. A great Eidolon that synergizes well with Hook’s Talent if there are 3 enemies, being able to apply multiple instances of Burn allows Hook to generate additional energy from the talent.

E6: Another straightforward Eidolon that increases Hook’s DMG by 20% to enemies afflicted with Burn.

Recommended Light Cones

Gacha

Something Irreplaceable The Moles Welcome You

F2P

On the Fall of an Aeon Woof! Walk Time!

Something Irreplaceable: A premium 5* light cone that is available via gacha. It increases the wearer’s ATK by 24% with no conditions. While its second effect restores HP equal to 8% of the wearer’s ATK when they defeat an enemy or get hit additionally, the wearer’s DMG is increased by 24% until the end of their next turn. An overall great light cone that provides a good mix of offensive and defensive utility, while it can be hard to trigger its secondary effect there are ways to increase the chances of being targeted such as applying March 7th’s shield onto Hook or by positioning her beside a Preservation character if the enemy has AoE.

On the fall of an Aeon: A F2P 5* light cone that is available in the Herta Shop and can be upgraded to superimpose 5. Its first effect increases the ATK of the wearer by 16% (superimpose 5) whenever the wearer attacks and stacks up to 4 times. At max stacks, this light cone can reach a grand total of 64% ATK at superimpose 5. However, the ATK buff gained from this light cone may take a few turns to set up as it requires the wearer to attack an enemy. Its second effect increases the wearer’s DMG by 24% (superimpose 5) for 2 turns after the wearer applies weakness break onto an enemy, while this is a strong effect it provides nothing if you are unable to apply weakness break to the enemy.

The Moles Welcome You: A 4* gacha light cone that has a simple and straightforward effect, it increases the wearer’s ATK when a Basic attack, Skill, or Ultimate is used to attack enemies this effect can stack up to 3. An important thing to note about this light cone is that you have to use 1 of each attack (Basic, Skill, and Ultimate) to gain maximum stacks.

Woof! Walk Time!: A 4* F2P light cone that can be bought in the Light Cone Manifest shop. Currently as of writing this Woof! Walk Time! is one of Hook’s best 4* light cones available, as not only does it increase the wearer’s ATK by 10% (superimpose 1) it also increases the damage they deal if an enemy is afflicted with Burn or Bleed. Hook is easily able to take advantage of this light cone as she can constantly apply burn with her Skill.
